Alexia Friedberg
Board of Directors
Alexia Friedberg brings more than 17 years of experience in public education to the CICAU Board of Directors. Throughout her career in Montgomery County Public Schools, she served as both a classroom teacher and Reading Specialist, working with students and families from diverse cultural, linguistic, socioeconomic, and learning backgrounds. Her professional experiences have reinforced her belief that education has the power to build understanding, foster empathy, and create stronger communities.
She is passionate about ensuring that all children see themselves reflected in the stories they read while also gaining opportunities to learn about cultures and experiences different from their own. Inspired by educator Rudine Sims Bishop’s concept that literature can serve as both “mirrors and windows,” Alexia believes multicultural education helps children develop the knowledge, respect, and compassion needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.
As a member of the CICAU Board of Directors, Alexia is honored to support the organization’s mission of promoting cultural appreciation, understanding, and inclusion through educational opportunities for children and families.
Alexia earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Maryland, College Park, with a minor in Communications. She later earned a Master’s degree in Reading and Literacy with a focus in Special Education.
