Our Programs

CICAU offers dynamic cultural learning experiences for students in grades K–8, thoughtfully designed to inspire curiosity, empathy, and global awareness. Through interactive, hands-on programming, students explore cultures in ways that are both engaging and meaningful. Rooted in our mission, each experience promotes understanding and appreciation of diversity. We partner with cultural experts, tradition bearers, artists, performing artists, chefs, and educators to bring authenticity and richness to every program.

Author Reading & Writing Workshops

Our literary workshops bring global stories to life, featuring children’s and young adult authors whose books reflect diverse perspectives and lived experiences.

Through read-alouds, author talks, and interactive storytelling, students explore themes such as family, food, traditions, identity, resilience, and community.

Authors also lead hands-on writing activities—such as story creation, journaling, and poetry—encouraging students to express their own voices.

Students explore the deeper meaning behind these stories while reflecting on their own experiences and personal connections.

Cultural Immersion & Exploration Workshops

Our cultural immersion workshops offer students a broad exploration of global customs, histories, and everyday experiences.

Led by cultural educators or representatives from diverse communities, these sessions engage students through full experiences like language, geography, music, family life, and festivals.

Interactive materials, multimedia, and hands-on activities help students understand how people live, celebrate, and express values across cultures, while gaining insight into how communities around the world influence and connect with one another.

Arts & Performance Based Workshops

Our art and performance-based workshops help students experience culture through movement, music, and visual arts, guided by professional dancers, musicians, storytellers, and tradition bearers.

These sessions introduce students to cultural instruments, crafts, and performance styles—from drumming and folk dance to textile arts and ceremonial storytelling. Students may observe or actively participate to better understand the cultural meaning behind each practice.

These hands-on experiences may culminate in class showcases, reinforcing creativity, collaboration, and cultural celebration.

Culinary

Workshops

Our culinary workshops allow students to explore culture through the universal language of food. These interactive sessions are often led by chefs or home cooks with cultural ties to the featured cuisine.

Students may participate in hands-on preparation or observe demonstrations while learning about the history, symbolism, and cultural practices behind each dish.

Tastings may include key ingredients, while recipe cards and take-home prompts extend the experience to families.

These workshops highlight how food carries stories, identity, and connection across generations.
